Short version: Anonymous use of Paper Explainer collects no personal information about you.
You can use Paper Explainer without creating an account or providing any personal information. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other personally identifiable information (PII) from anonymous visitors.
Like any web server, our hosting infrastructure automatically records standard request logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, HTTP status code, user-agent string). These logs are retained temporarily for security monitoring and abuse prevention, and are not used to build profiles of individual users.
This site uses Google Analytics (Google Tag Manager, measurement ID G-YYJHNN186K) to collect aggregated, anonymised usage statistics such as page views and general geographic region. Google Analytics uses cookies. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or a browser-level tracking blocker.
When you request an explanation for a paper, the paper’s content (title, abstract, and source text from arXiv) is sent to Google’s Gemini API to generate the explanation. No information about you (IP address, browser fingerprint, etc.) is included in these requests. Only the paper content is transmitted.
We do not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
We do not set any first-party tracking cookies. Google Analytics may set its own cookies as described in section 3.
If we make material changes to this policy (for example, if we introduce user accounts), we will update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
